Nets to fire Lawrence Frank
November 29th, 2009 | by samia |Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting the New Jersey Nets are ready to fire head coach Lawrence Frank once the team returns to New Jersey on Monday.
The Nets have yet to win a game, sitting at 0-16 even after the returns of Devin Harris and Courtney Lee. New Jersey is one loss away from tying the worst start in NBA history at 0-17 (Held by the inaugural 1988 Miami Heat and 1999 Los Angeles Clippers).
Frank’s seat on the bench was somewhat warm to start the season, but opening up with 16 consecutive losses, (soon to be 17 with the Lakers) and you could pretty much punch your ticket to the unemployment line yourself.
The Nets have to pay Lawrence Frank his quote which is 4 million, so I suppose that’s a good enough reason to keep him around this long.
Kiki Vandeweghe will take over on a interim basis, and has been with the team on the Western trip to get a gauge for what he’s dealing with. Ironically enough, Vandeweghe will take over on game 18, when the Nets will be playing Jason Kidd and the Mavericks, with Jersey trying to avoid 0-18. Great week for the New Jersey Nets.
Being serious though, Jersey has serious talent with Brook Lopez, CDR, and Devin Harris. Terrance Williams is additionally a player to watch because of his versatility. The Nets will be one of those teams that improves very quickly, laugh at me all you want, but I know what I’m talking about. If Jersey gets the right guy to steer the ship, watch out.
As noted in Wojnarowski’s article, league executives expect Frank to land on his feet. Lawrence Frank is a respected X’s and O’s guy, and though he never played professionally, he has the respect from throughout the league and will end up with a job as a assistant, if not a head coach.
