Does Vinny have to go? Bulls beat Warriors in the Meantime
December 12th, 2009 | by samia |Does he stay or does he go? What else would we be talking about with the Chicago Bulls? Do players get “fired” for bad play on the court? Reality says ‘no’. The size of the market, bound together with a playoff appearance last season, and the Bulls have expectations to follow.
It wasn’t but a month ago that I was thinking the Bulls could tread water beyond the assortment of injuries thanks in large part to a stiff defensive commitment. Instead, the focus has shifted on the head coach and if he’ll be out the door. You can attribute this to a squad on defense that let a offensive player tie his shoe while holding on to the basketball. But if you talked to VDN you’d think otherwise:
“It’s easy to sit back on the sidelines and everyone has all these great ideas. People think they know what they’re talking about. But until you live it and do it, no one has an idea. All you (media) guys have to write and do your job and come up with stories and that’s all great. But you guys really don’t know what it’s like–because you’ve never done it.”
It’s good to know Vinny is holding up well. All while sending a great message to his players simultaneously. VDN needs to relax and not forget about Byron Scott lurking in the shadows. Not for nothing, but i’d take Byron Scott in a second.
Bulls put a ’shhhh’ to Head Coach whispers
Fast Forward to last night and you saw the Bulls get a good, crisp victory. The Warriors aren’t the “Elite” competition, but they can score the basketball with Monta Ellis being the core. Ellis could always get to the basket with his quickness, but the perimeter shooting has solidified his ability as defenders play the percentages by going under screens.
Kirk Hinrich assumed the role of the unheralded savior of last night’s game by the job he did on Ellis defensively. Monta was held to 4 points in the game’s final eight minutes as Hinrich forced Ellis to put the ball on the floor and make a play for somebody else.
It took an overtime period, and Luol Deng carrying most of the offensive load late, but the Bulls got back to the defensive formula which had abandoned them for the past eleven games. Golden State averages 107.70 ppg but was held to 16 points less than their average. (The Warriors give up 111 points a game, Yikes)
Basketball Observations
- I want to say I am excited by seeing the Bulls attack the rim with regularity, but Golden State is a horrible defensive team. I don’t care if Anthony Randolph is a presence, the Warriors let the ball find the paint so easily, it looks as if the defense is a hostess, showing the ball where the basket is. An ungodly 56 points in the paint for the Bulls. Does that tell the story?
- The front court got it done, Joakim for 18, 14, and 3, while Brad Miller put in 12 points and 13 rebounds, with all his points coming in the first quarter.
- Luol Deng, 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. He’s the best decision I’ve made in my fantasy league. If the Bulls can add anybody to space the floor, Deng could lift the scoring average further with post ups and more free throw opportunities.
The Best team in the NBA is coming
The Bulls have the Celtics tonight, the best team in the NBA.(I don’t care about the Lakers) Boston has weapons from everywhere. They can out-tough you with guys like Perkins, or play the scoring game with all of their options from KG to Ray Allen. My prediction says the Celtics great defense makes our offense look like it’s strait out of ‘JV’. Just keeping it real Bulls’ fans.
